A Brief History of The Water Garden LLC
The Water Garden began business in 1987 when founder Randall Tate began installing ponds as a profession. Two years (and countless ponds) later, we opened the first retail water gardening center in Tennessee. In the late 1980s water gardening was still a relatively new, yet quickly growing, hobby in the United States. At that time the quality of available products was very basic. Over the next several years, while still focusing on pond installation and retail business, Randall worked with many individuals and businesses to help bring ideas and products that are now commonplace into the world of water gardens. At this point The Water Garden was established locally as a skilled pond installation company, retail store, mail-order catalog source, and wholesale supplier with customers from all over the Southeast. By this time Randall’s wife Karen and son Erik had also joined the team.
In 1995, in the infancy of the World Wide Web, The Water Garden started one of the first online water gardening Websites, with the help of our webmaster, David Smart (yes, he’s family too). WaterGarden.com became the online presence of The Water Garden. The site grew quickly into a reference center for hobbyists across the globe and provides high quality pond products to water gardeners in several countries.
1998 The Water Garden made the decision to retire from the pond building business to focus attention on retail and wholesale operations and to continue providing the best service and expertise possible.
Since the first store was opened in 1989, The Water Garden has moved twice making major improvements each time. Our current retail center is highlighted by display gardens which feature several ponds ranging up to 18,000 gallons in size.
Today, The Water Garden is still operated by the Tate family. We still strive to keep our level of service and the quality of our plants and other products as high as possible. We put a great deal of effort into providing water gardening expertise through our website and free email Tip of the Week.
We remain in close contact with our customers, both hobbyist and professional. The feedback provided helps us know which pond supplies people find most useful, reliable, and easy to use. We continue to attend trade shows and symposia where water gardening professionals share information with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of water gardening all over the world.
